In Ontario, personalized plates are issued by ServiceOntario under the "Personalized licence plates" program. 2 to 8 letters and numbers for cars (2 to 6 with a graphic), 2 to 5 for motorcycles. The fee is $310 ($336.40 with a graphic), and standard plate renewal only.

How to apply:
- Go to the ServiceOntario personalized plate form online; it checks whether your combination is taken as you type.
- Choose plain or graphic plate, enter the combination and your driver's licence or registrant ID.
- Pay the fee online. Any outstanding fines must be settled first.
- Plates arrive by mail in about four weeks; attach them and update your permit.
Rules:
- No more than four identical characters in a row.
- Interchangeable letters and numbers (S and 5, A and 4, O and 0) are treated as the same combination; if one is taken, the other is refused.
- No abusive, vulgar, sexual, violent, religious, drug or alcohol references, or trademarks.
